The fam and I try really hard to be good stewards of our life energies (read: money). So, it bugs me to no end when the people who have been living beyond their means (you with the subprime mortgage & the home you can’t afford… I’m looking at you) for the last 4 years are being rewarded by the government with tax rebates!
And what are we supposed to do with it? Why spend it, of course… the very thing that got us into this situation in the first place.
Drop the “stimulus package” phraseology already and consider it a late Christmas gift from Joe & Jane Responsible-Tax-Payer.
Of course, we could just tell the government to let us keep more of our money in the first place.
And don’t be surprised if this “stimulus package”, as it journeys through congress, gets packed with some extra pork-barrel spending. I’m sure the good folks over at Pork Busters will be keeping an eye out.
I LOVE, Don Surber’s take on this…
Instead of “doing something,” politicians should do nothing. They have already messed things up.
In the 1960s, people complained about the redlining of inner-city neighborhoods. Banks would not lend money to people to buy homes in the slums.
Politicians changed that.
Today, banks loan money to people who can’t repay loans. These are called subprime mortgages. Lo and behold, the live-beyond-their-means crowd defaulted on these loans.
Now the politicians are blaming the banks and want to save the “homes” of those who don’t pay their bills.
